An Angel

If I was an angel,

I would embrace you at night

My body would melt into yours,

I would watch from the inside

Your body’s vibrations:

The humming of the viscera,

The soft murmur of the kidneys,

A lock of hair stroking

the smooth muscles of your heart.

The melody of the oozing blood in the capillaries

Lulling to sleep your hissing bronchi

That night

an angel will take over your dreams

dozing off quietly inside

And just before you burn a seal on my lips

I vanish into the twilight.
